Progression routes

It is important to consider appropriate progression opportunities for students.

The more specialist BTEC route can take students from Level 1 (BTEC Introductory) to Level 4 (BTEC Higher Nationals).

Applied GCSEs are more general qualifications. For students who wish keep their options open at Level 3 then GCE in Applied subjects would be most suitable, perhaps alongside other GCEs. Alternatively a specialist route could be followed with BTEC qualifications.

Progression route that include Applied GCSEs and GCEs in Applied Subjects.

The BTEC route would be more suited to those who wish to follow more specialist qualifications, but would also suit students who respond well to internal assessment and scenario type assignments. The GCE and GCSEs in Applied subjects are more of a general introduction to vocational areas and would suit students who are unsure of studying specialist qualifications, and who might also be studying academic GCEs or GCSEs. However both routes are interchangeable as interests and learning styles become more evident.
